Picture
Although many of the patients who were hospitalized with COVID-19 in San Diego County so far are older, about half (48%) of hospitalized patients are under the age of 60!

Please practice social distancing - this is a really critical time to do it, as the cases are going up exponentially, and social distancing is the only way to slow the virus down and reduce the number people who will get sick or die from it.

Turn-around for test results may very.

It may take as long as several days to get results from some of the outpatient test centers (generally less than 48 hours).

Rapid testing is available in many inpatient facilities (Scripps Hospital system, for example, is using a rapid test for hospitalized patients that only takes minutes to run).

TESTING FOR CORONAVIRUS IN CALIFORNIA

"As of 6 p.m. PDT on March 18, approximately 16,900 tests had been conducted in California. This includes the latest numbers California has received from commercial and private labs. At least 6,300 results have been received and another 10,000+ are pending."

Officially:

"California is expanding coronavirus testing capacity daily.Governor Newsom announced the COVID-19 Testing Task Force, a public-private collaboration that will work with stakeholders across the state to quickly and significantly boost California’s testing capacity. The Task Force plans to scale up testing as demand increases.
During this interim period while testing is expanding, testing is being prioritized for people who:
  • have coronavirus symptoms AND
  • have one of these risk factors:
    • are hospitalized,
    • are a resident or staff of long-term health and correctional facilities OR
    • work in a healthcare facility, OR
    • are in prison OR
    • are over 60 years old, have a compromised immune system, or have serious chronic medical conditions.
To learn more about testing and treatment, see California Department of Public Health Coronavirus Updates.
The California community-based COVID-19 testing program is a state-directed, federally supported program in collaboration with Verily’s Project Baseline which will expand access to COVID-19 screening and testing for high risk individuals, in certain areas of the state. If you are in Santa Clara or San Mateo County, or within 50 miles of the city of Riverside, or the city of Sacramento and want to get tested for COVID-19, you can complete the screener to see if you qualify for testing through this program. You will need internet access and a Google account."
